About The Position

The Community Integration Specialist is responsible for providing community-based training to adults with developmental disabilities, preparing them for employment opportunities in the community. This role involves assessing individual skills with input from the individual, their family, and other stakeholders, coordinating community training sites, and delivering individualized training in a typical 2:1 service ratio across various areas including vocational skills, independent living, and social skills. The position is crucial in implementing strategies that align with the organization's goals and sustaining policies, procedures, and programs. The Community Integration Specialist typically works on projects and tasks that span from 3 to 12 months, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary support to thrive in community settings. In this role, the specialist will engage in project and change management, effectively planning and managing their own work to complete routine responsibilities and special assignments. They will also serve as a team member or subject matter expert on departmental projects, adapting to changes and communicating effectively with supervisors. Problem-solving is a key aspect of the job, requiring the specialist to work under general supervision while using their skills to address routine complexities, identify root causes, interpret data, and resolve issues. The Community Integration Specialist will act as an ambassador for Goodwill in the community, participating in volunteer opportunities and engaging with community organizations and local businesses to facilitate training opportunities. They will train individuals in community-based settings, focusing on building self-awareness, job exploration, professional behaviors, and essential job skills. Continuous assessment of individual skills, needs, and vocational interests will be conducted to support their advancement toward community employment. The specialist will document training progress, facilitate applications to the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and maintain ongoing communication with families and caregivers to ensure collaborative support for individuals transitioning into jobs.
