Requirements

  • Hold licensure as a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) from the State of Michigan.
  • Must meet qualifications of a Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP) and/orMental Health Professional (MHP) per the Michigan PIHP/CMHSP Provider Qualifications per Medicaid Services.
  • Have had at least three (3) years of full-time casework, therapy, or assessment experience including 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator or chauffeur's license.
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of co-occurring disorder (mental health and substance abuse); stages of change (transtheoretical model); phases of recovery and motivational interviewing/enhancement therapy.
  • Knowledgeable with criteria for dual diagnosis capability for substance use and mental health programs.

Responsibilities

  • Engages individuals and families in a welcoming, hopeful, empathetic manner regardless of stage of readiness and phase of treatment.
  • Assigns and supervises the workload of direct report staff.
  • Assists staff as required to manage workload efficiently.
  • Reviews cases to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services rendered.
  • Conducts staff meetings to review strengths, outcomes, problem areas and plan solutions.
  • Promotes staff retention through policy expectations related to staff supervision, professional development, formal recognition, and teambuilding.
  • Assists staff in improving and updating professional skills by providing them with information such as pertinent conferences and seminars, new techniques in the field and current and pending legislation affecting mental health services.
  • Orients and trains new staff.
  • Monitors case records, including the follow up and referral of clients to community agencies to aid in an accurate history.
  • Ensures that paperwork is maintained in accordance with funder requirement (i.e. Medicaid, 1st & 3rd Party Standards, & Easterseals MORC guidelines, policies, and procedures).
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify stage of change and use interventions consistent with stage of treatment.
  • Assist staff in developing strength-based, stage wise treatment matched person-centered plans that are designed to address identified consumer needs.
  • Able to provide resources for integrated treatment including self-help and peer support.
  • Model and use the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing in all interactions with staff, consumers and stakeholders.
  • Provides outcome and strength-based supervision to staff utilizing a range of supervision techniques to foster professional development and performance, develop skill sets and increase client outcomes.
  • Conduct clinical case reviews that are competency-based, strength-based, culturally relevant and focus on improving client outcomes. (i.e. utilize motivational interviewing with staff-direct, follow, and guide approach).
  • Assess for acute needs and risk and provide/arrange for appropriate stage wise intervention.
  • In the presence of two disorders, evaluation will be made of the interaction between the two, as well as the relationship of each to significant life events.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of diagnostic criteria for psychiatric and substance use disorders.
  • Familiar with a variety of outcome measures for psychiatric and co-occurring substance use, medical or other disorders.
  • Able to utilize outcome measurements in supervision and with person centered planning.
  • Provide support, education, and reinforce the use of prescribed medications to treat substance use and mental health disorders.
  • May also be responsible for the coordination of specific programs and projects as assigned.
  • Acts as a liaison with community agencies and substance use and behavioral health service providers, maintaining an awareness of the full range of human services available in the community that may be appropriate for client needs.
  • Develop informal and formal community partnerships and referral flows.
  • Instructs, assigns, schedules, checks and appraises the performance of staff assigned.
  • Hires new staff, recommends disciplinary, corrective action, and termination for current team members.
  • Responsible for assessing level of care and authorizing appropriate services for all persons served.
  • Learn fluency with reporting and utilize data to identify successes, areas for growth, and trends for assigned teams.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of trauma informed care including addressing secondary traumatic stress.
  • Willingness to support and assist consumers with trauma related issues.
