About The Position

The Community Initiatives Intern will assist with community engagement activities that support The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in being a trusted and reliable partner to the community and the Mid-North neighborhoods surrounding the Museum, including Crown Hill, Highland Vicinity, Historic Meridian Park, Historic Watson Park, Mapleton-Fall Creek, and Meridian Highland. This intern will help reduce barriers to dependable, credible resources that support a high quality of life for community members and Mid-North residents through outreach, program support, and evaluation efforts. The Children’s Museum is fiercely devoted to our Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) efforts. We cannot transform the lives of children and families unless we embrace all families. Requirements

  • Completion of at least one year of college coursework.
  • Academic background in nonprofit management, event management, marketing or communications, social work, education, family studies, museum studies, child development, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and research skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Professional behavior and a responsible work ethic.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
  • Availability to work Saturdays and some evenings to support meetings, programs, and events.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with community members, staff, and partners, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to move throughout community spaces and Museum facilities as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to participate in meetings, programs, and events, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with promotional efforts to drive enrollment and participation in community programs.
  • Propose ideas to enhance the quality of community program offerings.
  • Assist with market and or vendor research to support programming and project needs.
  • Support coordination efforts for community programs and or event operations.
  • Assist with pre- and post-event evaluations to help develop reports on program outcomes.
  • Engage with established community relationships to help build trust and foster collaboration in support of diverse community needs.
  • Complete additional community outreach and engagement tasks as assigned.
