The Problems You’ll Solve: The Community Initiatives Coordinator will lead volunteer capacity building initiatives for community-based organizations across the City to increase their ability to effectively and efficiently engage local residents in volunteerism to support their mission and better serve communities. The Community Initiatives Coordinator will work on the Community Engagement team and collaborate with other NYC Service staff.

Requirements

  • You have a commitment to service year programs and volunteerism.
  • You are a self-starter with strong work ethics and a flexible work style in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint, Outlook (Salesforce, a plus).
  • You have excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and creatively.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to and provide support for internal staff and external partners.
  • You have experience collecting and analyzing data.
  • You can work beyond traditional working hours and schedules, as needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • As part of the Community Engagement Team, develop and implement robust support opportunities for all NYC Service non-profit partners.
  • Research and attend outreach activities and engagements.
  • Develop and execute surveys as needed to gain feedback on NYC Service offerings and inform future content.
  • Analyze data and evaluate training surveys, with an eye for challenges faced and areas where support is still needed.
  • Develop and recommend additional support opportunities, including training, workshops, and convenings for organizations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the NYC Service GVMS and Training Series Supporting Your Community Through Effective Partnerships & Volunteer Engagement.
  • Advance the NYC Service website as a capacity-building asset for nonprofit partners.
  • Provide technical support for nonprofit partners utilizing the NYC Service website platform.
  • Co-led website tutorials and training courses for nonprofit partners with the Digital Engagement Team.
  • Support senior staff to manage a funding portfolio that targets NYC nonprofit organizations, delivering essential services to residents. Examples include NYC Civic Impact Funding.
  • Oversee funding opportunities, such as coordinating the funding announcement, application process, and overall program implementation.
  • Support the grantee organization through all steps of the funding term.
  • Track ongoing program data and report to the Director of Community Initiatives.
  • Monitor report that evaluates grantee performance and highlights successes and challenges associated with emergency procurement program design.
  • Lead a debrief session following the funding term with NYC Service and other funding recipients.
  • Support senior staff on emergency City needs (e.g., natural disasters and humanitarian needs).
  • Collaborate with Community Engagement Team management to extend community-based organization support for youth leadership, mentorship, and in-kind donation projects.
  • Represent NYC Service at select events.
  • Be available on select weekends and on select evenings for projects.
  • Provide project support with other service activities and programs, as needed, including emergency volunteer response
  • Support City initiatives as needed, including but not limited to possible emergency response and recovery.
