About The Position

Join Our Mission at NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens: Excellence in Patient Care and Community Support NYP Health4Life is a pediatric lifestyle intervention program within the Division of Community and Population Health. Our mission is to empower participants—ages 2 to 20—and their families to make healthier lifestyle choices through improved nutrition and increased physical activity. We collaborate closely with patient families, NYP healthcare teams, and community-based organizations to create a supportive and engaging environment. Community Health - Fitness Specialist - Health4Life Program - Part-Time - Queens The Fitness Specialist will support the Health4Life team and the Senior Director of Maternal-Child Services, working closely with the program’s medical lead. This role is integral to implementing and enhancing physical activity programming in both clinical and community settings. This role is ideal for a fitness professional passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and making a meaningful impact on pediatric and family health in both clinical and community settings. Available for 2 afternoon sessions a week, one day must align with the Health4Life clinic afternoon.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with related course experience and/or work experience
  • 2+ years of experience providing clinical assessment and counseling on physical activity or exercise to elementary and/or adolescent patients
  • Experience working in a community setting
  • Certified Exercise Physiologist or Certified Personal Trainer or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
  • BCLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills and a high degree of flexibility
  • Ability to function collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP. NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses .

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree with related course experience and/or work experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience working with elementary and/or adolescent patients and their families in a community setting
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Conduct clinical assessments for Health4Life patients during weekly clinic sessions.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on physical fitness for the interdisciplinary Health4Life team.
  • Develop and tailor exercise programs and program materials to support physical activity initiatives.
  • Stay current with evidence-based research in physical activity, program development, public health, and education.
  • Lead weekly virtual and in-person exercise classes for Health4Life patients.
  • Participate in in-person community events, occasionally during evenings and weekends.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners to support program sustainability and visibility.
  • Assist with administrative tasks essential to the successful operation of the Health4Life program.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of all follow up appointments for clinic patients.
