About The Position

The Community Health Educator will be responsible for all activities required by assigned Community Health Initiatives/Grants, including Illinois Tobacco Free Communities (Tobacco Program) and the HIV/STI Prevention and Pre/Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP/PEP) programs. The duties will require the development of public health education materials, data tracking and evaluation, social media development, policy work, participation in public health events/fairs, and community coalitions/committees, as well as working with high-risk and diverse populations. This will also include providing HIV rapid counseling, testing, and referrals, outreach, intervention education, and awareness. Position-specific training will be required and provided. Required to work an occasional evening or weekend.

Requirements

  • Community Health Educator I: An accredited Bachelor's in Arts, Health Science, or Science with a concentration in Health Education, Health, Public Health, Public Health Education, Community Health, Community Health Education, School Health Education.
  • Community Health Educator II: An accredited Master's in Science, Health Science, Community Health, Community Health Education, Public Health, or Public Health Education, or Science with a concentration in Public Health, Community Health Sciences, or Health Policy and Administration.
  • OR Bachelor's in Arts, Health Science, or science with a concentration in Health Education, Public Health, Public Health Education, Community Health, Community Health Education, School Health Education, with two (2) years of community health education experience.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License and minimum auto liability insurance.
  • Verification of employment eligibility or U.S. citizenship.
  • Must be a non-smoker.
  • Certification as an HIV Counselor and Tester for Risk-Based Testing in the State of Illinois (or must complete within 1 year of hire date).
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Programs: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
