About The Position

Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe is seeking an enthusiastic Community Garden Assistant to join our Culture Department! This is a part-time, seasonal position (20 hours per week), working closely with the Community Garden Manager to ensure the health, beauty, and productivity of our tribal community garden. This is a hands-on role perfect for a team player who enjoys working outdoors and is passionate about sustainable gardening, food sovereignty, and community engagement. You will play a vital role in maintaining the garden’s physical space while helping to facilitate cultural and educational events that bring our community together.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates degree in Horticulture or related field preferred
  • One (1) year of relevant experience
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Program skills including Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse economic, cultural, and social backgrounds
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Must be able to successfully pass criminal background investigation

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for garden upkeep and maintenance through weeding, watering, pruning, deadheading, mulching, edging, raking, and fertilization
  • Perform appropriate soil preparation and planting procedures
  • Report plant pests and control as directed
  • Clean, and use hand tools and equipment when applicable
  • Assist the Community Garden Manager with special event planning in collaboration with the Traditional Foods and Culture Program, plan and host social gatherings and educational workshops (ie. Waking of the garden, work parties, harvest parties, and putting garden to rest) when applicable
  • Be responsible for the general oversight of a seasonal assistant(s)
