Community Engagement Specialist

About The Position

The Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in advancing NHTC’s mission by leading fundraising efforts, grant writing, marketing, and public relations activities. This position also coordinates the Person-Centered Advocacy group, connecting advocacy efforts to NHTC’s broader community outreach and mission. This position will focus on the growth of community awareness, cultivating donor relationships, and securing the financial resources needed to support our programs and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, or a related field and/or related experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, communications, or a related role
  • Proven experience with grant writing and a track record of successful awards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp), and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
  • Passion for NHTC’s mission and the communities we serve

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, donor appeals, and special events
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners
  • Track and acknowledge donations and maintain accurate donor records
  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with NHTC’s programs and priorities
  • Write, compile, and submit grant proposals and reports on time
  • Maintain a grant calendar and ensure compliance with funder requirements
  • Develop and manage content for social media, email newsletters, and the organization’s website
  • Create promotional materials, flyers, and other collateral to support programs and events
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice across all communications
  • Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries and community outreach
  • Draft press releases, talking points, and other external communications
  • Build relationships with local media and community stakeholders
  • Coordinate and support the Person-Centered Advocacy group, including scheduling meetings, facilitating communication, and maintaining group records
  • Connect the advocacy group’s work to NHTC’s broader mission, programs, and outreach efforts
  • Serve as a liaison between the advocacy group and NHTC leadership and stakeholders
