About The Position

The Community Engagement Specialist is a highly visible, people-forward role focused on connecting Jefferson County residents to civic life through on-the-ground outreach and relationship building. The Specialist will plan, organize, and staff information tables at community events to help Coloradans register to vote, learn about elections, and get resources related to the Clerk’s office. This role will be crucial to increasing community trust and involving Jeffco residents in defining the county’s future and requires a self-directed organizer who is comfortable working independently and communicating progress clearly and consistently. The work will include representing the Clerk’s office at partner meetings and coordinating volunteers while actively identifying opportunities to collaborate and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion. Position must protect privacy and confidentiality. SCHEDULE: Position operates both in office, and on-location around Jeffco and surrounding counties for events. Must be able to support some weekend or night events. This part-time role will work on average 20-25 hours a week. Position is expected to be a 6-9 month employment, but could potentially extend longer if the candidate’s availability and the office’s needs support that. COMPENSATION: Hiring Range: $29-$30 USD Hourly Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

Requirements

  • Criminal History and MVR Background Checks are required for every position.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license is required for positions that drive on County Business in either a county or personal vehicle shall have a Colorado Driver’s license within 30-days of hire or beginning to serve as an intern or volunteer.
  • Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of criminal history, motor vehicle report, education verification, and/or references.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with community engagement and/or organizing.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within Jefferson County’s neighborhoods and community groups.
  • Experience with volunteer coordination and management.
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience and comfort engaging community members in various formats, including one on one, small groups, and public settings.
  • Experience with voter registration, elections outreach, or nonpartisan civic engagement.
  • Ability to work independently, manage several projects at once, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to articulate clearly and effectively to people with diverse backgrounds in a variety of professional to informal settings.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including timely and accurate updates to supervisors and partners.
  • Ability to lift 35lbs

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, and organizations to expand voter registration and community engagement efforts.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for community events and activities.
  • Physically attend and works local events, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Conduct voter registration and provide accurate, nonpartisan information about Colorado elections at community events and tabling opportunities.
  • Independently organize outreach events, meetings, and initiatives, including identifying opportunities, arranging logistics, and managing staffing.
  • Represent the Clerk’s Office at partner meetings and community gatherings, sharing resources and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
  • Maintain contact information and lists, event calendars and schedules, track outcomes, and manage data
  • Other duties as assigned.
