About The Position

As a Community Engagement Manager, you will build and strengthen community partnerships to expand access to mental health services for individuals and communities affected by natural and human-made disasters. You will coordinate disaster care programs and support field-based response efforts, working closely with partners and internal teams to deliver timely, compassionate mental health support during times of crisis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience in disaster preparedness and response, emergency management, community coordination, mental health program outreach, or related areas.
  • Strong understanding of mental health needs during and after disasters.
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in field settings during crisis situations.
  • Advanced public speaking/presentation experience and skills in presenting ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and across departments.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch mission.
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • Current California driver’s license, car insurance, and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Experience working within community mental health or nonprofit sectors.
  • Training or certification in Psychological First Aid, Incident Command Systems, or similar disaster response frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Community Relations Identify, build, and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders involved in disaster preparedness and response.
  • Build out referral networks to facilitate rapid client connection to needed resources before and during disasters.
  • Support the development of donor networks to strengthen program sustainability, in collaboration with the agency’s Development and Grants Teams.
  • Attend and represent the agency at conferences, meetings, and community events to position the organization as a leader in disaster mental health response.
  • Program Coordination Coordinate deployment of field-based and telehealth mental health services.
  • Collaborate with the Director with the Research & Evaluation, Grants, and Quality Improvement teams to develop and implement methods for assessing program effectiveness, track grant deliverables, and ensure clinicians document services appropriately.
  • Collaborate with the Director on development of policies, procedures, and program materials, and effective reservist program operations.
  • Coordinate the training & onboarding of staff in the Reservist Mental Health Initiative to ensure readiness for deployment during disasters.
  • Following a disaster, ensure all program staff receive timely, disaster-specific training materials to support effective service delivery and awareness of community needs.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Director of Training and Community Engagement, Director of School Strategy and Services, Clinical Leadership within Whole Person Care and the Suicide Prevention Center, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated response efforts.
  • Manage projects specific to disaster response initiatives within the program team.
  • Community Response Meet with community stakeholders to gather information about emerging needs during/after a disaster and advise the Director on strategic response decisions.
  • Coordinate and participate in online and field-based crisis response, community meetings and trainings to community groups affected by disaster events.
  • Be present in the field as required to support coordination and direct service delivery.
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to ensure timely dissemination of service information to impacted communities.
