The City of Portland is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator (Coordinator II - CPPW) The Public Safety Service Area (PSSA) is seeking a community engagement professional to join the Portland Committee on Community-Engaged Policing (PCCEP) team to implement outreach and engagement efforts in support of police oversight and accountability. This position will be the first dedicated community engagement coordinator for PCCEP, providing critical support to its mission of elevating community voice in police reform and public safety policy. This position will support PCCEP's role under the City's Settlement Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and its responsibility to advise the Mayor and Chief of Police, monitor Portland Police Bureau reforms, and ensure meaningful community participation in oversight and accountability. The Community Engagement Coordinatorwill bridge the gap between community and City governance, improving access, participation, and outcomes for those most impacted by policing and public safety practices. This role is responsible for designing and executing inclusive outreach strategies, facilitating public participation, and ensuring that community voices are meaningfully integrated into PCCEP's work to promote equitable and constitutional policing.

  • Facilitate community engagement:Organize and support PCCEP's public meetings, subcommittee work, and large-scale community engagement events.
  • Support PCCEP membership: Work with committee members to build capacity, provide onboarding, and maintain alignment with PCCEP's bylaws and mission.
  • Strengthen outreach: Develop and implement PCCEP-wide engagement strategies that ensure broad and equitable participation in oversight processes, with a focus on communities disproportionately impacted by policing.
  • Network and collaborate: Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, advocacy groups, public safety stakeholders, and City staff.
  • Coordinate logistics: Manage communications, event planning, and meeting facilitation for both in-person and virtual events.
  • Track accountability: Document, evaluate, and report on PCCEP's recommendations, City responses, and progress toward oversight goals.
  • Manage contracts and resources: Oversee consultant support for engagement activities and ensure compliance with timelines and deliverables.
  • Experience developing and implementing equitable, culturally responsive community engagement strategies for diverse audiences and incorporating public input to meet program or policy goals.
  • Knowledge of the Portland metro region's history and impact of public safety community concerns.
  • Skill incoordinating outreach events and supporting community-based groups, committees, or coalitions.
  • Knowledgeapplying project management principles, practices, and methods to projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques and methods eliminating barriers within communities and organizations in the Portland metro region.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and basic data tracking/analysis tools.
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
