Purpose The Community Engagement Associate will report to the Associate Director, Development and will support development efforts for CWS Local Office through management of grant initiatives, event planning, community engagement and data tracking. This role will engage with volunteers, community members, clients, and various other constituencies via community engagement events as well as provide grant writing and data collection assistance. The remaining time will be allocated to strategic planning, collaboration with team members, office administration, constituent services, and reporting. The Community Engagement Associate, in collaboration with the Associate Director, Development is responsible for planning and coordinating at least one large community engagement event per quarter (four per year), one client facing event per quarter (four per year) and a target of six corporate volunteering events per year. The goal of this position is to increase the visibility of CWS in local area and the surrounding area through community education and engagement.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years previous work experience in non-profit community engagement.
  • Required Skills/Abilities: English-language fluency
  • Ability to travel domestically and have valid driver's licenses.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)
  • Must possess the ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, be self-motivated and function independently.
  • Must be able to work within a team environment; and be flexible.
  • Must possess acute attention to detail and ability to stay on top of critical deadlines.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and must have demonstrated ability to work independently with high comfort and skill, interacting with partner organizations and coordinating people and resources.
  • The ability to work in a multicultural environment is required.
  • Special Requirements Must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurable record.
  • Must be able to keep a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Donor development experience, including constituent engagement, program management, grant writing, office administration, and volunteer management.
  • Experience in non-profit, social justice, community development, and volunteer management are essential for this position.
  • Experience with event planning and coordination.
  • The ability to speak another language, especially Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Dari, Pashto, or Arabic is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Community Engagement: Cultivate, build, and maintain relationships with local partners, including faith-based organizations, institutions of higher education and community-based organizations.
  • Work with the Associate Director, Development and Community Engagement team to create an outreach plan for identifying new communities and engagement opportunities.
  • Conduct presentations and other speaking engagements targeting faith-based organizations, higher education institutions, community-based organizations, and client communities to train them on CWS services/clients’ needs and heighten CWS visibility in Florida.
  • Represent CWS Florida at community events, including fairs, festivals, faith-based events, etc.
  • Support local community organization and business group engagement with CWS Florida through group volunteering activities, corporate sponsorship, and targeted fundraising opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director, Development on CWS Florida’s annual fundraiser, World Refugee Day Celebration Hudson Gives fundraising event, summer camp programing, Thanksgiving Celebration and more. In addition, this position will work with other departments to support their events, such as the health and wellness department, the legal department, and the children and youth services department.
  • Work with Co-sponsorship senior Associate and volunteer and in-kind senior Associate when relevant to support their work engaging with the community.
  • Grant Writing: Work with program leadership to craft and submit strong grant proposals to meet program goals.
  • Coordinate federal grant submission processes, working with Associate Director, Development and program leadership to complete their respective pieces of the proposals, compiling and editing all necessary attachments, and submitting to CWS HQ and/or federal funders directly.
  • Liaise with current and new foundation and grant making officers and staff to nurture those partnerships and keep them informed as appropriate.
  • Create (where necessary), update, and maintain monitoring and evaluation systems for programs and their respective grant agreements.
  • Additional Duties: Advocate for refugees, asylees, and entrants in Florida by developing educational materials and training that assist volunteers in promoting involvement and raising awareness about refugee and immigrant concerns.
  • Develop a strong understanding of refugee and immigrant issues via training, webinars, media, books, publications, and reference tools, using current information to educate the broader community about refugees and immigrants.
  • Work varied hours, including some nights and weekends.
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor.
  • Represent CWS in meetings and events relevant to the position.
  • Accept other duties as assigned.
