BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency. SCOPE OF WORK: The intern will assist the Volunteer Coordinator with various aspects of volunteer recruitment, management, and in-kind donations. Tasks may include assisting with volunteer communication and onboarding, surveys of volunteers, processing donations, updating information across databases, assisting with community outreach, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or recent graduate
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Organized, reliable, and flexible
• While a personal vehicle is not required, it would be helpful on occasion.
• This position is unpaid and reports to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Volunteer Orientation including contacting potential volunteers, sending out reminders, and recording attendance.
• Assist in maintaining accurate, up-to-date data across pertinent databases.
• Assist with outreach for donor drives and volunteer appreciation events as well as collection of volunteer survey feedback.
• Attend and assist with community presentations.
• Process donations of goods and assist with the management of contributions in-kind including confirming orders for accuracy, logging inventory, organizing the stock room, and assisting with valuations for donations.
• Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.
