About the position

This position works closely with internal and external partners within the city to ensure seamless execution of multiple year-round special events that vary in size and location throughout the Parks and Recreation department. The position also is responsible for managing the operations of a large section of the City's Parks and Recreation system, to include management of recreation and parks personnel and the development of recreation programming. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Responsibilities

  • Handles all aspects of event planning, from event production to coordinating communications, overseeing logistical details, and creating and monitoring event logistics, implementation, and follow up.
  • Plans and implements from start to finish special events scheduled throughout the year.
  • Supervises, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with city leadership, other City departments, community partners, and stakeholders to plan and execute programs and events.
  • Works nights, weekends, and holidays as required to coordinate and oversee events, programs, and community engagements.
  • Ensures compliance with city policies, safety regulations, and contractual agreements for events and public gatherings.
  • Oversees planning and interaction for the communication and coordination of established roles for elected officials at a variety of community events.
  • Serves as city liaison for advisory boards.
  • Plans, directs and implements a broad and varied program of parks and recreation activities and services.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the complete operation of assigned parks or assigned areas.
  • Works with 3rd party software programs for recreation and facility rentals, timekeeping and invoicing.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of operational reports and revenue records.
  • Supervises the collection of revenues from recreational programs, activities, special events and admissions.
  • Plans, organizes, conducts and supervises significant special events.
  • Coordinates all road closures through FDOT for special events.
  • Explains and interprets rules and regulations, fees, and recreational operations to park patrons.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of all park areas and facilities.
  • Approves or reviews requisitions for materials and supplies for park operations and maintenance.
  • Develops and implements general and therapeutic recreational activities for individuals with social, mental or physical disabilities.
  • Meets with organized groups, individuals, or other interested parties to provide information.
  • Ensures the safety of all programs, activity and event participants and providers.
  • Monitors recreation facilities to ensure security, proper working order of equipment, cleanliness of area and other potential maintenance hazards.
  • Greets visitors to the office and recreational facilities.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation Management or related discipline.
  • Five years of experience in event planning and coordination with three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • First Aid/CPR within 90 days of employment.
  • Certified Crowd Manager within 90 days of employment.
