About The Position

Under the direction of the Chief of Community Development and Public Relations, the Community Engagement and Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for advancing the mission of Direction Home of Eastern Ohio through strategic community outreach, partnership development, public awareness initiatives, and policy insight. This role strengthens community relationships across the four-county service area, increases visibility of agency programs and services, supports educational initiatives, and contributes to revenue and partnership growth. The position collaborates across departments to align messaging, programming, and outreach efforts with agency priorities and emerging trends affecting older adults.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, public relations, human services, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in human services, community outreach, event coordination, project management, partnership development, or related work is preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinate events, and meet established deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and general computer systems required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences, community partners, funders, and stakeholders.
  • Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must also pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within the aging network or nonprofit sector is strongly valued.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, cultivating, or supporting revenue-generating opportunities such as sponsorships, partnerships, grant support, fundraising initiatives, or community-based income strategies preferred.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and digital communication tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strategic community partnerships to increase awareness of agency programs and services across the four-county region.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration that expand agency reach and strengthen community presence.
  • Explore and cultivate partnerships and potential revenue opportunities that further the agency’s mission and sustainability.
  • Represent the agency at community meetings, events, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Identify, coordinate, prepare for, and participate in community events, fairs, and outreach opportunities.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating agency educational events, including public notifications, presenter coordination, and partnership development.
  • Collaborate with the Chief of Education to identify emerging educational opportunities aligned with community need.
  • Plan, manage, and oversee agency social media platforms to promote programs, events, and key initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of agency publications, including the resource guide and special interest communications.
  • Ensure consistent, mission-driven messaging across communication channels.
  • Research legislative and regulatory issues affecting older adults.
  • Monitor and provide insight into emerging policy trends in aging and long-term services and supports.
  • Share relevant policy information internally to support strategic planning and advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with Family Caregiver Support, Senior Olympics, and the Agency Wellness Manager to align outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Support cross-departmental initiatives that enhance community impact and program visibility.
  • Leverage research on legislative trends impacting aging populations to develop data-driven communications and Agency publications.
  • Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or management team
