The Community Director is a full-time live-in staff member of University Housing and Dining within the Division of Finance and Operations at Clemson University. This role is pivotal in managing a residential area that accommodates approximately 600 to 1000 students, focusing on the specific needs of the assigned population through a residential curriculum model. The Community Director supervises both graduate and undergraduate paraprofessional staff to foster a vibrant residential community environment. This position requires collaboration with various departments, including Finance and Operations, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs, to ensure a holistic approach to student living and learning. The Community Director is also responsible for performing other duties as assigned, which may vary based on the needs of the university and the residential community. In terms of responsibilities, the Community Director will implement a residential curriculum by designing and executing a community plan that includes specific learning goals and outcomes. This involves advising community council student leaders to enhance their leadership and advocacy skills within the residential community. The role also requires collaboration with academic partners, such as Faculty-in-Residence and Faculty Friends, to create a supportive environment for students. The Community Director will work closely with assigned Living-Learning Communities and community liaisons to enhance the overall community experience, ensuring an environment that promotes academic excellence and cultural awareness. Leadership is a significant aspect of this role, as the Community Director supervises Graduate Assistants, Resident Assistants, and Desk Assistants. This includes setting expectations, providing accountability, and evaluating staff performance. The Community Director will lead staff meetings, manage the KRONOS timecard approval system, and create training and development curricula for Resident Assistants. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the recruitment of a diverse staff and participating in annual training sessions for all staff levels. The Community Director also plays a crucial role in housing administration and management, addressing student maintenance and custodial needs, assessing building requirements, and managing budgets. They will facilitate the opening and closing of the residential community and manage keys and procurement processes. In terms of judicial administration, the Community Director will review incident reports, meet with students as a conduct hearing officer, and ensure adherence to university policies and procedures. Crisis management and student care are essential components of this position. The Community Director will serve in a weekly on-call rotation, responding to facility and student emergencies, and providing support to staff during crises. They will identify safety and security issues within residential areas and collaborate with the Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) to address these concerns. Furthermore, the Community Director will manage CARE for assigned students, working closely with the Office of Advocacy & Success to provide necessary support and referrals, while also assisting Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) with crisis management and program implementation.
