About The Position

The Community Development Specialist II (CDS II) serves as a strategic liaison between Wellby and key community stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations. Focused on Wellby’s designated markets in the Greater Houston area, the CDS II identifies and addresses community development needs that align with the organization’s growth objectives. This role helps drive member acquisition, expand market reach, and strengthen Wellby’s brand in the financial sector by building strategic, targeted partnerships. By working closely with community partners and internal experts, CDS II provides tailored financial solutions that address local needs and support Wellby’s mission to empower members financially and deliver long-term value.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions, general operating policies and procedures and credit union best practices.
  • Knowledge of credit union products, services, and regulatory requirements that impact event planning and member engagement.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of retail product philosophy, banking industry best practices, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite products or related software.
  • Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications, and adding devices.
  • Skilled in data organization and implementation into readable formats and spreadsheets.
  • Skilled in effective verbal and written communication to prepare and conduct presentations, training seminars, and workshops.
  • Skilled in interpersonal skills for exchanging accurate information across diverse audiences.
  • Skilled in above-average analytical and reasoning abilities.
  • Skilled in solid influence skills.
  • Ability to work outside of business hours, occasional evenings or weekends, to attend events or meetings.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing, or a related field required.
  • Minimum five (5) - seven (7) years of experience in a marketing role; business development /account sales representative required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of professional work with leadership roles involving community development projects, team oversight, and strategic partnerships.
  • A valid Texas driver’s license is required (must be obtained within 30 days of the hire date), and reliable transportation for off-site events.

  • Responsible for delivering our vision of building lifelong relationships with our existing members and the community by developing long-lasting relationships with community partners (professional work groups, DEI organizations, non-profits, etc.).
  • Handle Wellby’s philanthropic efforts and initiatives in the community
  • Foster strong initial connections by building rapport, understanding their needs, and establishing a positive foundation for successful ongoing relationships.
  • Maintain active membership and professional involvement with Greater Houston area chambers, fostering collaborative relationships, contributing new sales, and staying informed about industry developments
  • Develop and implement strategic outreach initiatives to identify and acquire new clients and drive sales growth
  • Support organizational sales goals by identifying and pursuing outreach and engagement opportunities
  • Responsible for Wellby’s Shred Days event planning, logistics, and coordination
  • Visit at least three branches per week to maintain relationships with Branch Managers and discuss new opportunities for community partners.
  • Nurture high-impact partnerships with nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, housing groups, and small business networks.
  • Actively identify and mitigate several risks, including operational and reputational.
  • Creates and shares content that highlights the company and showcases its team members or teams
  • Provide weekly reports and feedback to the senior leadership regarding performance and results for department KPI and metrics.
  • Handles inquiries from community members and stakeholders and seeks out a subject matter expert or spokesperson when appropriate.
  • Represent the credit union in key coalitions, community boards, and outreach events to increase visibility and member growth.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and mentor to community development professionals, guiding them in executing mission-aligned programs and expanding organizational reach.
  • Represent and promote Wellby's financial education and wellness offerings at community and corporate business development events as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
