About The Position
Winnetka, Illinois, a beautiful north suburban community along Lake Michigan's North Shore, is seeking an experienced planning and land use professional to serve as its next Community Development Director. Known for its tree-lined neighborhoods, excellent schools, and high level of municipal services, Winnetka is a home rule community with a 'AAA' bond rating, located approximately 16 miles north of Chicago. The Village has three distinct business districts and has recently updated its Comprehensive Plan in 2023. As a full-service municipality, Winnetka offers various services including police, fire, water, and electric utilities, governed by a Village Council and supported by a professional Village Manager and 161.25 FTEs. The Village's 2025 budget is $94 million, with $23 million allocated for capital projects. The Community Development Director will play a crucial role in overseeing planning, zoning, building code review, and other critical functions within the department.
