About The Position

You might be thinking, That's a lot of people! How do you serve that many? Well, hopefully YOU can help us! Direct Support Professionals are the backbone of MRI. They help our individuals gain freedom and independence by assisting them in everyday tasks. At times, you may assist with toileting and feeding and other times you will help supervise and train persons served in various job skills. Come make a difference! Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One or more years work experience with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness preferred.
  • Must pass a reading test and comprehend and recognize errors if hired after November 1, 2005.
  • Ability to counsel, advise, teach, resolve conflicts, and direct staff and families.
  • Effective and diplomatic communication skills in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change and perform adequately in critical or unexpected situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act.
  • Adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.
  • Complete MRI training requirements.
  • Obtain first-aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification.
  • Reliable transportation and valid Illinois Driver's License.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and assist in lifting/transferring individuals.
  • Full range of mobility and adequate vision and hearing.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about developmental disabilities and mental illness.
  • Flexible schedule availability.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic manual communication signs.
  • Experience in active treatment and principles of normalization.
