About The Position

The members of the Business Department, which includes faculty of the Business Software and Administrative Management (BSAM) program, are committed to providing a core foundation of business principles to students of all backgrounds. We support a quality educational experience that provides learning opportunities for our diverse student body. Faculty teaching in the Business Software and Administrative Management program affiliate with the Business Department. Their curriculum supports the Business Software and Administrative Management Associate of Applied Science degree and certificate as well as our business degrees. The Business Department values a diversity of approaches and backgrounds in our faculty members, and encourage a participatory culture that affirms the engaged role our faculty play in service to the college. Normandale Community College is striving to achieve racial equity in educational outcomes. Those hired into these positions will be expected to advance this goal through culturally responsive teaching, identifying barriers to success for students of color, and proposing effective solutions to eliminate those barriers. The successful candidate will be expected to: Teach in an inclusive, student-ready, and culturally responsive manner to meet the needs of our diverse student body. Teach a broad spectrum of Business Software and Administrative Management courses including day and evening classes, and utilizing different instructional modalities, including online, face to face, and hybrid delivery formats. Work as a team member in maintaining a student-ready learning environment that meets the educational needs of a diverse student body. Contribute to department, division, and college goals, which provide the basis for program planning, implementation, evaluation and support Maintain currency in their knowledge of new digital or software tools supporting the administrative and operations functions of business Engage in scholarly activities consistent with the college’s goals Be committed to the success and retention of underrepresented students Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes. Participate in the development and improvement of curricula and courses. Participate in faculty and department meetings and College-wide committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, business education or marketing.
  • Two full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in business office applications and operations.
  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
  • Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement course construction (credit course) teaching/instructional methods (credit course) student outcomes assessment/evaluation (credit course) philosophy of community and technical college education (credit or non-credit course)
  • Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired, or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status. These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, postsecondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Certification or five years’ experience using the full suite of Microsoft Office applications
  • Instructional or work experience in one or more of the following areas: project management, business analytics, business applications, or workforce development

  • Verifiable paid work experience in the field of business
  • An understanding of the community college mission and its unique student population
