About The Position

The Community Coach serves as the point person for partnering and connecting New York City Housing residents that reside on Staten Island and local community-based organizations to the Jobs-Plus program in order to create an inbound pipeline of new members and to increase community awareness of program services and community partnerships. The Community Coach engages 25 - 40 new residents and community partners per month. The Community Coach works closely with the Assistant Director and Community Engagement Advisor and other members of the Jobs-Plus team to promote a business-driven model of job placement., retention and other wrap around services to help change lives. He or she also works with staff and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of program processes and policies that directly impact the community partners and residents of NYCHA developments, teamwork and/or general center operations.

Requirements

  • Customer Service experience
  • Community engagement
  • Effective interpersonal skills to engage residents of New York City public housing on Staten Island.
  • Must be a New York City Housing resident on Staten island in the following zip codes, 10301, 10310, 10304, 10303, 10306, 10305, 10314
  • 1-2 years of related experience in an outreach role, preferably with government, professional or community-based organizations
  • Strong outreach skills with a demonstrated ability to thrive in environments with multiple stakeholders, frequent change, and diverse objectives
  • Ability to create buy-in and resource allocation outside direct reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to gather and synthesize information from a wide variety of people and sources
  • Excellent strategic thinking, operations and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with high proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Extensive knowledge and insights of NYCHA communities on Staten Island
  • Must reside in one of the 7 New York City Housing developments on Staten Island.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a regular program of communication, education and support to residents that keeps the flow of new members and existing members growing in both numbers and quality.
  • Involve other Jobs-Plus program departments as appropriate to achieve these goals - Regularly engage with the community partner staff and residents of New York City Housing communities on Staten Island.
  • Communicate regularly with the Career Advisors and employment coordinator about local partners who can provide services to jobseekers with barriers to employment.
  • Enter and analyze data from community questionnaires and surveys to report community needs, trends, new community support for work initiatives, and resident requests for employment, training, and other resources.
  • Strategically collaborate and coordinate with the outreach team, leaders, and Jobs-Plus staff to present ideas for community engagement and implement action plans.
  • Work closely with the team to develop, document, implement and continually refine a strategic approach to sourcing, engaging and leveraging the strengths of a wide variety of community partner organizations that can provide a steady flow of NYCHA residents seeking employment, training, financial counseling, clinical wellness and other resources.
  • Engage all community partners on a regular basis in one-on-one dialogue about referrals and other programmatic offerings; maintain at least two contacts per organization - Work with leadership to develop effective social media and marketing campaigns that will help in promoting Jobs-Plus services and increase enrollment.
  • Actively search for and engage a wide variety of educational, vocational and social service community partners who will partner with Equus, Jobs-Plus to enhance and improve services and resources for residents and members of Jobs-Plus.
  • Serve as the center’s community liaison, developing and communicating a deep understanding of the locality through attendance at community and partner events.
  • Identify community partners whose services can be utilized by jobseekers and coordinate with the Assistant Director/Community Engagement Advisor Serve as a community ambassador in the communities of service.
