About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Division Madison County Corps is looking a Community Center Program Aide. This individual will coordinate and monitor community center programs such as after school, leagues, summer gym schedule, open recreations, and rentals. This is a part-time, 25 hours per week, $15.00 per hour. Monday-Friday 2:30 pm.-6:30 p.m. 525 Alby Street, Alton, IL

Requirements

  • Previous work with youth activities and community center is desirable.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to read and write well.
  • Relate well with youth and children.
  • Requires basic verbal communications with children and other employees.
  • Valid drivers’ license (including E license to transport children) and pass TSA MVR is a plus.
  • Must be certified by American Red Cross (ARC) in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee children, members, and visitors during activities in the community center.
  • Enforce rules as necessary.
  • Assist in developing games and monitor games and sports for children, leagues, rentals, and other recreational opportunities.
  • When necessary, mediate disputes among participants, being sensitive to needs of all parties.
  • Tutor children on their homework.
  • Clean gymnasium and work and play areas before and after activities.
  • Assist in planning community center special events.
  • Maintain and organize all gymnasium supplies and equipment.
  • Train members and visitors in the care and use of games and equipment.
  • Record and submit daily statistical reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others’ property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers and supervisors.
