The Community Based Safety Specialist role is part of the Behavioral Health team which supports ETS’ mission through overseeing safety and client engagement while out in the community. This role makes a critical difference at ETS by ensuring that patients and staff are provided with a safe and therapeutic environment.

  • Help ETS succeed in carrying out our mission through working together with other staff to transform systems of harm and inequity to create different approaches to improving community health and safety through addressing substance use and homelessness.
  • Assist with the organization-wide initiative to reimagine our interconnectedness within our community to overcome the aspects of our society and organizational culture shaped by white supremacy and settler colonialism.
  • Carries out the safe operation and driving of a 20-30 foot transport or RV-style vehicle in areas of high traffic.
  • Sets up and breaks down a mobile treatment facility in an urban environment.
  • Develops professional rapport and trusting relationships with patients through respectful, person-centered engagement practices.
  • Orients new patients to the remote TIM locations and patient flow in and out of the space while maintaining a hospitable and friendly demeanor.
  • Monitors patients’ activities within the immediate vicinity of the remote treatment locations with the intent to address any potential safety risks or violations of program rules and regulations.
  • Submits incident reports or other relevant documentation when appropriate, and monitors and reports hazardous materials and conditions.
  • Works in collaboration with Counselors and Case Managers to support individual service plans for patients with challenging behaviors.
  • Upholds strict patient confidentiality and safeguards sensitive security-related information, including safety checklist, patient logs and/or reports.
  • Conducts twice-daily safety inspection of mobile treatment unit both in the check-out and check-in of the vehicle to its secured location through the completion of a verified checklist; also monitors security cameras and control systems.
  • Routinely maintains critical functions to the operation of the mobile treatment vehicle such as; filland-dump of gray water tank, tire pressure checks, fluid level checks, filling of the gas tank.
  • Assists with receiving and stocking supplies for the mobile treatment unit.
  • Assists police, fire, EMS, and all other emergency service providers in the performance of their duties while responding to the remote treatment location.
  • Responds to all mobile treatment facility alarm activations including but not limited to security, duress, fire, and intrusion alarms.
  • Helps implement systems to support patients with behavioral issues in a highly stimulating urban environment.
  • Attends ETS team meetings and other required meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High School graduation or equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree desirable, preferably in social services.
  • Previous experience in a safety-related role, especially with individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • An understanding of racial justice and social equity and a commitment to helping create an equitable environment for all ETS clients and patients as well as fellow staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, and staff from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Customer service experience and/or training.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and verbal/ written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and complete tasks timely and efficiently.
  • Dependable, able to work under pressure, receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem solving.
  • Flexible team player, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to set boundaries, resolve conflict and de-escalate issues.
  • Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.
  • SUDP/SUDPT a plus.
  • Experience driving a truck, van, or RV in an urban environment with heavy street traffic highly desirable.
