About The Position

Bronx Community Planning Board No. 1 is a New York City agency established to identify the needs of our community and advocate through city government to meet those requirements. In addition, we are empowered through the New York City Charter to make advisory decisions on land use, budgets, public policy and to monitor city services. The Board is composed of appointed members who represent different areas of our district, which includes Mott Haven. Melrose and Port Morris The Community Associate, under supervision of the Community Coordinator, assists in resolving community issues, supports the District Manager, Board Officers, Committee Chairs and Members, and is responsible for various administrative tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Community Coordinator and District Manager in the monitoring and evaluation of municipal services and respond to constituent concerns related to these services
  • Work closely with committee chairs on routine assignments, such as applications, agendas and reviewing meeting minutes in a timely fashion
  • Ensure day-to-day office operations are efficient and effective
  • fostering strategic relationships between community groups and organizations
  • representing the organization by presenting at events, trade shows, schools, clubs, etc.
  • collecting information about local demographics, trends, and needs
  • using targeted advertising and outreach campaigns to reach specific populations or communities
  • tracking and managing volunteer performance and maintaining accurate records of their contributions
  • liaising with government offices to create effective partnerships when addressing community needs and resolving constituent complaints
  • maintaining an outreach database which details contacts, partnerships, and outreach activities
  • staying current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies
  • Draft targeted advertising and outreach campaigns to reach specific populations or communities
  • Draft press releases, brochures, fliers and newsletters to raise awareness about available services, meetings and special events
  • collecting information about local demographics, trends, and needs
  • Lead, supporting and guiding team members who contribute to outreach activities and events
  • Review invoices and input purchase orders and entries in the city Financial Management System (FMS) for further approval by the / Community Coordinator and District Manager and assist in maintaining financial records
  • Communicate issues of community interest by drafting content for Board’s monthly e-newsletter and social media; track and provide regular updates and district content that has been approved by the board and district manager.
  • Coordinate the development and content updates of the Community Board’s Website
  • Prepare formal correspondence from the District Manager and the Board to various agencies and elected officials as assigned
  • Monitor and respond to correspondence from the Board and the public, conducting research as necessary and tracking key data
  • Take minutes of selected committee and all monthly full board meetings and submit in a timely fashion to the Community Coordinator, District Manager and/ or Committee Chair for edits or approval.
  • Ensure all meeting notices and minutes are received, distributed, and posted on time, coordinating with District Manager and board chair
  • Prepare and update board member attendance reports and other reports as assigned
  • Maintain Community Board files and records in both paper and electronic form
  • Attend monthly Board meetings and select committee meetings, which are normally scheduled in the evening, as well as other occasional evenings and weekend events and meetings
  • Perform other miscellaneous tasks to support the mission and work of the Board and District Manager
