About The Position

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is seeking an organized, passionate, and enthusiastic intern to support the Community and Impact team. The intern will help foster a sense of belonging for historically underrepresented and/or misrepresented communities in the film industry by assisting in research, administrative duties, community outings (e.g., tabling, site visits, and networking events), and tracking the impact of the team’s work. Areas of focus include building community partnerships for the museum’s film programs, workshops, gallery discussions, and tours; identifying potential organizations and individuals for bimonthly Community Conversations; identifying potential film programs to program activations around; gauging the impact on different communities; and providing vital support for Community Day 2026 that revolves around the FIFA World Cup. The intern is expected to complete 400 hours of internship in 10 weeks. Upon completion, the intern will better understand best practices and approaches to community work in a museum or similar institutions as well as working collaboratively to build diverse audiences for a multitude of programs. This position is well-suited for undergraduate students majoring or planning to major in film studies, sociology, ethnic studies, media studies, world history, art history, museum studies, or related fields in the humanities and social sciences. Previous museum experience is not necessary for this internship.

Requirements

  • Attend college in or be a permanent resident of Los Angeles County.
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program.
  • Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2026. Students who graduated after April 1, 2026, are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program or have received a prior BA, BS, or higher degree are not eligible.)
  • Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Help strategize community building for a wide range of film programs, panel discussions, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives.
  • Conduct community-related research.
  • Assist with taking meeting notes and aid in public program preparation, as needed.
