About The Position

The individual provides direct oversight to all telecommunications dispatchers, who are responsible for dispatching local law enforcement to emergency situations in the county. The individual will be required to oversee and supervise the daily operations of the dispatch center for the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. This position reports to the Director of Communications and Records.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of dispatching experience.
  • Clean criminal history and a valid Ohio Driver's License.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises dispatchers and related communications services, including assigning work, planning and estimating work requirements, and adjusting work assignments to accommodate extended absences/vacations.
  • Monitors performance, trains employees, and resolves personnel and/or departmental problems, including administering discipline.
  • Assigns and reviews the workload of direct reports to ensure compliance and accuracy with set standards, conformance to policy, and timely completion of work.
  • Meets with the Communications Manager regularly to review programs, policies, procedures, decisions, and outcomes, and to facilitate planning of activities for the dispatchers.
  • Coordinates the activities and schedule of communications personnel.
  • Coordinates installation and maintenance of communications equipment.
  • Testifies at trials, hearings, or grand juries.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews on dispatchers' work product.
  • Drives and sets up mobile command.
  • Participates in on-call status.
  • Performs special assignments as directed.
  • Maintains professional training.
  • Writes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Participates and assists with a variety of special projects as requested.
  • Performs related essential and non-essential functions as needed.
