About The Position

The Ohio State University is seeking a Communications Student Assistant for the FAES | Center for Lake Erie Area Research-JM. This position involves conducting interviews and researching subjects for article development, either as a sole author or in collaboration with other authors for newsletters and/or the website. The assistant will create educational text for display panels on topics such as harmful algal blooms, pharmaceuticals in the water, wetlands, and aquaculture. Additionally, the role includes developing news releases on program research and events for public awareness and promotion, assisting in the development of publication graphics and layout with a graphic designer, writing short scripts for YouTube researcher summaries, and creating brochures, fact sheets, and posters covering outreach programming. The assistant will also create social media posts on program research and outreach and update media lists and the publication database.

Requirements

• Must be a current student at The Ohio State University.
• Strong writing skills with the ability to create clear and engaging content.
• Ability to conduct research and interviews effectively.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in science writing or press release development.
• Familiarity with graphic design tools.
• Knowledge of environmental issues related to the Great Lakes.
