About The Position

The Communications Specialist for Regional Communications at Penn Medicine plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations, projects, and initiatives of the organization's regional entities. This position involves collaboration with the broader Penn Medicine Communications team to execute internal and external communication strategies, focusing on storytelling and media outreach. The specialist will manage content across various platforms and lead selected projects, requiring strong writing skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in a communications role, preferably in healthcare, non-profit, or media environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing communication projects from concept to completion, including print and digital publications.
  • Experience with digital communications tools, including social media platforms, content management systems, and email marketing platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Assist digital/web staff in the maintenance of the Department's web page and social media properties.
  • Generate and post content over social media platforms, such as Facebook.
  • Monitor and measure Penn Medicine's traditional and social media coverage and maintain departmental archives.
  • Lead project management and writing for monthly or annual print/digital publications under the guidance of a senior editor.
  • Assist in media relations, publications, and internal communications activities including press releases, announcements, and newsletters.
  • Coordinate media outreach and pitch stories to news media for up to two departments/divisions.
  • Prepare institutional news releases, articles, and multimedia content for publication.
  • Assist in the production of media reports and maintain media lists.
