About The Position

The Communications Specialist at the Diocese of Allentown is a part-time role focused on supporting the Office of Communications in promoting the mission and activities of the Diocese. This position requires a strong understanding of the Catholic faith and involves a variety of communications and public relations activities, including content creation, administrative support, event coordination, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the values of the Catholic Church and skilled in various digital communication tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Writing, Theology, English, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in digital communications.
  • Previous experience in communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Flocknote, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Analytics, and other digital media tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be creative, resourceful, flexible, and work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to set, manage, and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Clergy and Parishes.
  • Knowledge of Catholic theological and liturgical traditions.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Bishop's Office by prioritizing its needs in promoting the Diocese's mission.
  • Assist in writing, editing, and proofreading content for various publications and platforms, including The AD Times and AD Today.
  • Respond to inquiries about the Diocese received via email or mail.
  • Provide administrative support to the communications team, including maintaining databases and scheduling meetings.
  • Assist with the planning and promotion of diocesan events, including drafting promotional materials.
  • Cover events across the Diocese, capturing quality photos and writing compelling news articles.
  • Collaborate with the Chancellor to craft media responses when necessary.
  • Conduct research on community outreach efforts to assess communication effectiveness.
