The Communications Specialist I at the University of Rochester's Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) plays a crucial role in leading communication efforts for the Rochester Prevention Research Center (RPRC) and the National Center for Deaf Health Research (NCDHR). This position involves developing and managing content for various communication platforms, including social media, websites, and print materials, aimed at promoting health and preventing disease within deaf communities and individuals with hearing loss. The role requires collaboration with faculty, staff, and community partners to ensure effective outreach and engagement with diverse stakeholders.

  • Serve as a lead writer and content creator for the URMC Communications Content Hub.
  • Develop and implement integrated communications programs supporting URMC's strategic plan.
  • Coordinate communications activities and materials development for RPRC projects.
  • Produce and manage social media and website content, print materials, and research briefs.
  • Attend RPRC events to gather content for future materials development.
  • Review content with RPRC leadership and maintain distribution schedules for communication materials.
  • Coordinate the production of videos, including script-writing, filming, and editing.
  • Manage the RPRC website, creating and updating content regularly.
  • Provide general administrative assistance for RPRC operations, including scheduling and correspondence.
  • Facilitate communication with community members about RPRC research projects.
  • Coordinate communication access services, including managing interpreter services requests.
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, or a related field with writing experience.
  • 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Experience and familiarity with deaf culture and deaf health.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office software and experience with website design.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design programs.
  • Relevant administrative or communications or graphic design experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
