About The Position

The Communications Specialist 2 (State Police) is responsible for providing 24/7 communications services to sworn police members and public safety personnel. This role includes supervisory oversight of dispatch staff, creating schedules, training new employees, and ensuring the effective operation of communication systems within the New York State Police dispatch areas.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
  • Three years of experience as a Dispatcher, including Emergency Medical Dispatch and Basic Communicator certifications.
  • One year of service as a Communications Specialist 1 (State Police), SG-12 for promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Directs staff in the operation of communications systems and equipment.
  • Monitors Emergency Medical Dispatch certification status and continuing education progress of staff.
  • Reviews tape recordings for quality assurance.
  • Ensures technology outage plans for dispatch and non-dispatch locations are updated.
  • Reviews radio logs or computerized radio log entries to ensure that radio checks are being conducted.
  • Assists Troop communications supervisor with operational matters.
  • Implements and tracks testing procedures for communications devices.
  • Maintains and prepares logs for communications devices.
