About The Position

The Public and Media Relations Officer will strategize, create, and manage public relations and media relations projects for internal and external education and communication. This role involves planning, writing, and editing copy for various publications, performing media relations duties, and providing content for internal communications. The officer will also respond to requests from senior leadership and manage social media and website content.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public relations, marketing, journalism, or communications.
• Minimum of five years full-time compensated public relations, marketing, journalism, or related experience.
• Minimum of two years managing relationships with the media and responding to requests for information.
• Demonstrated success in building audience on professional social media channels.
• Current with emerging technologies, including digital and video cameras.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida Driver License.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of NIMS training in IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, and IS 800.
• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, and edit copy for publication including news releases, brochures, and digital content.
• Perform media relations duties, including fielding questions from the media and acting as a spokesperson.
• Arrange and coordinate news coverage.
• Track and report media coverage of county news and events.
• Provide content for internal communications to county employees.
• Respond to after-hours requests for Public Information Officer call-out.
• Write, design, and post social media and website content.
• Provide event planning and support.
• Back up support for all divisions and functions.
