About The Position

This position is responsible for managing telephone traffic efficiently, operating the public address system, and activating alert systems during emergencies. The role requires effective communication and multitasking skills to ensure timely responses to calls and alarms, contributing to a safe environment within the hospital.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Accurate keyboard and records maintenance skills.
• Ability to multitask and respond in a timely manner.
• Minimum of two years' phone and office experience, preferably in a hospital or similar setting.
• Ability to move about the hospital and between workstations.
• Effective interpersonal skills and communication skills, as the first point of contact for callers.
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment and exercise proper decision-making skills in pressure situations.
• Ability to work independently and possess critical thinking skills to handle emergency calls effectively.
• Requires 4-6 weeks of full-time training on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.

Nice To Haves

• Previous switchboard operation experience preferred.
• Registration experience helpful.

Responsibilities

• Promptly responds, screens, and directs telephone traffic to the appropriate area in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Monitors all light and sound alarm signals, responding appropriately to activate signals and dispatch necessary repair or emergency response teams.
• Provides on-call services as requested.
• Complies with visiting restrictions within patient information guidelines.
• Assists in promoting a safe environment consistent with standards at BVHS.
• Attends and participates in educational activities, performance/process improvement, accreditation processes, and customer service/satisfaction as requested.
• Responsible for submitting departmental documentation within established time frames.
