About The Position

The Communications Officer is responsible for performing specialized radio and communications work, including receiving and prioritizing incoming non-emergency and emergency calls. This part-time position requires efficient and accurate relay of information to field personnel using various communication systems, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) license within one year of appointment is required.
  • Completion of TCOLE approved Basic Telecommunicator course, Crisis Communications course, TDD/TTY for Telecommunicators, and Field Training Course within one year of assignment is required.
  • Must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement license as a Communications Officer is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates emergency and non-emergency communication systems.
  • Receives requests for service by telephone and relays necessary information efficiently.
  • Enters and retrieves information from various databases including TCIC/NCIC and local emergency response databases.
  • Monitors state and national messages through TLETS/NLETS.
  • Processes, forwards, and maintains records of information obtained or entered.
  • Operates radio console and dispatches multiple law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies.
  • Ensures radio operations comply with FCC procedures and requirements.
  • Maintains appropriate logs of services requested.
