About The Position

The Southeastern Louisiana University's Police Department invites applicants for the position of Communications Officer 1. This position serves as the communications hub for the Southeastern Louisiana University Police Department and receives and routes all calls for service (emergency and non-emergency) via police radio, telephone, and walk-in reports. This position is assigned to our Uniform Patrol Division and facilitates radio and telephone emergency transmissions as well as walk-ins. The schedule for this position is a 2-2-3 schedule, working either a 6am-6pm shift or a 6pm-6am shift depending on the need of the department. This position is considered an essential position and is required to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, closures, special details, emergency incidents, and inclement weather events as needed. Current Salary: $16.06/Hour AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES Communicating Effectively: The ability to relay information correctly and appropriately to connect people and ideas Focusing on Customers: The ability to serve the needs of those who support and/or rely on the services provided Using Data: The ability to use relevant and valid data to inform a recommendation for action

Requirements

  • Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or clerical work; OR Six months of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR Fifteen semester hours of college training.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course
  • All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirements within six months of employment.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
