About The Position

The Communications Manager is an integral member of the communications team, focused on developing survivor-centered brand strategies and media response for the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) and its youth-focused program the National Teen Dating Violence Helpline and its education and prevention project, love is respect. The position works closely with the communications team and our PR firm of record to build thoughtful, data-informed comprehensive, survivor-centered content that engages the diverse audiences of our organizations. This is a full-time, hybrid role with a requirement to work in the office four days per week. Compensation: This role offers an annual salary range of $90,000–$100,000, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, and alignment with our salary structure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in strategic communications, content development, social media management, and/or public relations.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong writing ability and editing skills, and a passion for storytelling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Google applications.
  • Experience with the Meltwater media platform.
  • Serious attention to detail and strong time and project management skills.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently to complete projects on deadline.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with a diverse group of fellow team members, executives, managers, external groups and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to carry out and articulate the mission, vision, programs and purposes of the organization.
  • Ability to be flexible, if needed, to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Demonstrated success with supervising and mentoring entry-level communications professionals.
  • Must maintain a stable internet connection with at least 10 MBPS download and 2 MBPS upload speeds.
  • Must have a home workspace that is confidential, secure and free from distraction.
  • Must maintain standards of confidentiality related to agency information.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing using keyboard, phone, and computer

Responsibilities

  • Content creation and digital strategy: Research, plan, create, and evaluate multimedia content across all platforms (website, blogs, infographics, social media). Develop strategies to drive website traffic and connect survivors to advocates, services, and resources in partnership with communications team.
  • Media relations: Lead day-to-day media relations (proactive and reactive), triage media inquiries with our external PR firm, develop press materials, and conduct regular analysis of earned media and PR firm performance.
  • Digital collaboration: Partner with the social media manager on content strategies and launching an influencer program. Research and implement new tools to enhance our digital presence and reach key audiences.
  • Funder compliance: Support communications, marketing, and awareness campaigns to meet all funder (federal and private) goals and performance targets within funding periods.
  • Internal communications: Lead internal communications efforts, including newsletter content, presentations, all-staff emails.
  • Equity and engagement: Identify survivor gaps in communications strategies and increase resources and engagement, with a focus on underserved communities.
  • Data collaboration: Work with the data team to ensure external reports are accurate, survivor-centered, and appropriately contextualized.
  • Administrative support: Collaborate on administrative tasks and manage inquiries from general email inbox and phone lines.
