About The Position

The Communications Manager at the University of Chicago's Inclusive Economy Lab plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the lab's communications strategies. This position collaborates closely with the Executive Director, Faculty Director, and Leadership Team to enhance the lab's external presence and impact. The Inclusive Economy Lab is dedicated to addressing the systemic barriers that have historically excluded many Americans from economic opportunities. By working with policymakers, community organizations, and other stakeholders, the lab aims to co-generate evidence-based solutions that can lead to meaningful policy changes. The Communications Manager will be responsible for the external positioning of the lab's brand, ensuring that messaging is consistent and impactful across various platforms. This includes managing media relations, developing communication plans, and overseeing the lab's online presence through its website and social media channels. In addition to crafting communication strategies, the Communications Manager will build and maintain collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including university communications and civic engagement teams. The role requires a strong understanding of the public policy landscape and the ability to engage thoughtfully with issues related to race, identity, and equity. The manager will also oversee a communications budget and coordinate with freelancers to execute communication initiatives effectively. This position is crucial for supporting the lab's recruiting and fundraising efforts, developing donor engagement materials, and contributing to media outreach efforts. The Communications Manager will also be tasked with solving complex problems related to communication delivery and ensuring that the lab's work is effectively communicated to both internal and external audiences.
