The Intern position is a formal training/development position with specific responsibilities within a defined functional area. Each intern has an individual work plan outlining specific duties and projects for the duration of the internship as well as overall goals for the internship period. A designated mentor will provide supervision, guidance and support. This internship works within our Human Resources division and gets an opportunity to dive into different areas within HR such as, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Total Rewards, Compensation, HR Systems and Operations, and Employee Relations.

Requirements

  • Currently completing post-secondary studies in Communications, Human Resources, Business, or be a recent graduate.
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative in a team environment.
  • Collaborates with team members, mentors, and leaders within the organization.
  • Coachable with a highly motivated work ethic.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards

Responsibilities

  • Learns organizational processes and procedures to support department staff with communications-related tasks and projects, including content development, campaign coordination, and intranet updates.
  • Develops professional skills through on-the-job learning, writing and editing assignments, and exposure to communication planning and storytelling.
  • Builds relationships with internal stakeholders to gather content and ensure messaging consistency across communication materials.
  • Supports project coordination, timelines, and review processes to help ensure effective and timely delivery of content.
  • Assists in planning and execution of communication initiatives, including employee campaigns, newsletters, events, and recognition stories.
  • Develops an understanding of what each department does within the organization through participation in meetings, events, and cross-functional project that need internal communications support.
  • Demonstrates professional workplace behaviors, is punctual and presents an appropriate appearance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by designated leader and/or mentor.
  • Performs work under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and projects and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
