About The Position

As the Communications Engineer, you will support NAVAIR’s Airborne Strategic Command, Control, and Communications Program Office (PMA-271). In this role, you will play a key part in the design, integration, and sustainment of advanced communication systems supporting both the E-6B Mercury and E-130J TACAMO platforms. This description outlines the general nature and scope of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline, required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related, communications systems engineering experience.
  • Well-versed in EMD and sustainment efforts.
  • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams and with external partners.
  • Effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Proactive, self-directed work style with the ability to operate independently.
  • Analytical thinker with proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within the NAVAIR environment is highly desired.
  • Experience utilizing Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support research, evaluation, and selection of HF, UHF, VHF, and IP Line-of-Sight systems for current and future E-6B and E-130J capabilities.
  • Develop and implement cosite mitigation and simultaneous operations (SIMOP) strategies across multiple communications bands.
  • Perform engineering analysis, system integration, testing, and design of aircraft communications hardware, software, and interfaces.
  • Conduct RF system analyses, interoperability assessments, and alternative design evaluations to enhance mission effectiveness.
  • Support system specification development, technical reviews, and system redesign/reconfiguration efforts as needed.
  • Assess subsystem design maturity and provide technical adjudication recommendations throughout development.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, engineering analyses, reports, and change proposals.
  • Provide technical oversight throughout system development, testing, production, and fleet sustainment.
  • Lead requirements verification efforts, including coordination of ground and flight test data across both platforms.
  • Contribute to Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Technical Directives (TDs), and risk/issue resolution activities.
  • Support project reviews, customer meetings, and program status reporting.
