About The Position

The Communications Electrician position involves skilled direct hands-on work in the maintenance, repair, installation, configuration, and programming of various communications systems and equipment. This includes microwave radio, conventional and trunking two-way radio, VoIP telephony, SONET, SCADA, data networks, radio communications transmitters/receivers, multiplexing, audio and video systems, IP security cameras, badge access control systems, CCTV, and CAD. The role may require permanent assignment outside the Southern California area and includes a shift differential for night work.

Requirements

• Four years of full-time paid experience in maintenance, repair, and installation of electronics and communications systems.
• Two years of full-time paid experience plus completion of a certificate program or associate degree in electronics technology, telecommunications, or computer science; or completion of a U.S. military electronics technical course of 24 weeks or longer; or a certification in Cisco or HP Networking with two years of experience in data network installation and configuration.

Nice To Haves

• Skills and/or training in radio, fiber-optics, and microwave communications.
• Certifications in public safety communications systems from recognized organizations.
• CompTIA Network+ Certification.
• Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I) Fiber Optics Technician (FOT) Certification.
• A valid General Radio Telephone Operator's license issued by the Federal Communications Commission.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair communications systems and equipment.
• Install and configure communications systems including microwave radio and VoIP telephony.
• Program and troubleshoot various communications systems.
• Work with data networks and security systems such as IP cameras and access control systems.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure effective communication and system functionality.
