About The Position
The Communications Dispatcher/Clerk at the Sheriff's Office of Worcester County is responsible for a variety of dispatching and clerical functions in accordance with established standard operating procedures. This role requires the use of independent judgment to determine the correct response to calls and in all dispatching procedures. The position operates primarily during the hours of 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, ensuring that all communications are handled efficiently and effectively. The dispatcher will answer and appropriately direct calls from the general public, police departments, governmental agencies, attorneys, sheriff departments, and other correctional facilities. They will also place calls to governmental agencies for warrant and/or background checks, classify information received, and request ambulances for inmate and employee emergencies. Additionally, the dispatcher will be responsible for notifying the Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Special Services or their designee of requests for K-9 services and will coordinate with the Special Operations Group (SOG) or mutual aid in case of emergencies. Maintaining situational awareness is crucial, as the dispatcher must be aware of the location of perimeter vehicles at all times and dispatch them as needed. They will provide quick and accurate checks for vehicle and license checks utilizing the LEAP system, maintain a daily log of activities, and assist the public with routine information while referring more complex situations to supervisors. Training new Communications Dispatchers/Clerks is also part of the role, along with performing any other duties as assigned by supervisors. This position is vital for ensuring the smooth operation of communications within the Sheriff's Department and requires a calm and efficient response to emergency situations.
