About the position

The Communications Coordinator promotes the museum's brand to all audience groups and serves as the primary contact for the media. Drafts and executes Public Relations (PR) and marketing plans for exhibitions, programs, and museum announcements. Coordinates the creation of signage and graphics. Provides website and social media support.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts and executes PR plans, including museum press releases, press outreach and follow-ups, scheduling media interviews with museum staff, and arranging for publicity photography.
  • Builds and maintains press kits.
  • Keeps museum public relations contact database up to date, researches press outlets, and tracks earned media coverage.
  • Drafts and executes marketing plans including coordinating advertisements for museum exhibitions, programs, and events in print, digital, and broadcast media.
  • Works with freelance designers on ad designs.
  • Ensures the museum's advertising contact database is updated regularly.
  • Creates and distributes the museum's promotional bulk emails.
  • Designs signage for the museum's atrium, screens, galleries, table tents, and other museum and campus spaces.
  • Supports Communications and Digital Content Assistant on website and social media updating and content creation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in communications or art history.
  • 3-4 years of experience in related field.
  • Some communications experience in a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and handle many projects simultaneously.
  • Research and evaluation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Desktop publishing or design experience.
  • Proficiency with computer applications for word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to interact with media and members of the public in a professional manner.
  • Knowledge of museum administration.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to problem solve and think creatively.
  • Demonstrates good decision-making and sound judgement.
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with museum communications.
  • Experience with print production.
  • Background in art history and/or anthropology.
