About The Position

The Associated Press seeks a talented writer and digital communicator to join its corporate communications team. This is a hybrid role based in AP's global headquarters in New York. The Communications Associate reports to the Internal Communications Manager and plays an integral part in keeping AP staff around the globe informed about company news, corporate strategy and personnel announcements and produces engaging original content in all formats (video, text, graphics and photos). With staff in nearly 250 locations in about 100 countries, AP is the definitive source for fact-based, nonpartisan journalism. It will be the job of the communications associate to highlight staff successes and celebrate their achievements in a variety of formats and ensure that our global staff has access to the information and tools they need to thrive and feel connected to the AP and each other. In one day, you could be writing about a new team of journalists covering the Middle East, gathering photographs from AP photographers covering the Olympics, assisting with a communications plan for the rollout of a new HR product and running an interactive Zoom meeting connecting colleagues from across the globe.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent is preferred
  • 2-4 years of corporate communications or journalism experience is preferred
  • Experience creating and editing video
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and familiarization with AP Style
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 programs, Teams, Slack and Zoom
  • Experience with company intranets or websites. Simple html knowledge and familiarity with content management systems are a plus
  • Impressive attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to reprioritize effectively
  • Well organized, proactive and able to juggle multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required
  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Write and copy edit internal news stories, create and edit internal videos and draft and distribute weekly newsletters
  • Own AP's intranet, including strategy, alignment with company and departmental objectives, targeted user needs and experience, maintenance and ensuring the site is up to date, engaging, visually appealing and follows best practices for intranet design
  • Facilitate company- and department-wide programs including town halls via Zoom and assist with corporate events
  • Work collaboratively with departments and teams across all areas of the AP to aid them in their communications needs and celebrate their successes
  • Maintain corporate communications calendars, along with media and content libraries
  • Assist with corporate social media accounts
  • Use data and analytics to drive decision making
  • Assist with media relations and executive communications as needed, including media monitoring and other duties
