About The Position

We are seeking an experienced, polished, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven communication strategist to support NASA’s Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD) Strategy and Architecture Office (SAO) at Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This role serves as a key member of the communications team, representing both organizations in a wide range of capacities. The successful candidate will ensure that all internal and external communications reflect NASA’s standards of excellence and its dedication to mission success.

Requirements

  • Strategic thinker with exceptional attention to detail and decorum
  • Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and organizations
  • Strong judgment and adaptability in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient writer with technical information comprehension and strong command of AP style (writing samples required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience managing a high volume of products with competing priorities
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment supporting multiple clients
  • International and Domestic Travel is required to support conferences and meet customer needs
  • Ability to multitask to accommodate fast paced environment with fluctuating deadlines and priorities. Composure in rapidly adjusting priorities to meet dynamic client needs
  • Outstanding communication skills and an ability to interact with all levels of management and organizational staff
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with government, contractor, and vendor team members
  • Able to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision

  • Familiarity with NASA preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with an integrated, rapid-response communications team to interact with and support senior officials at NASA HQ and other Centers
  • Solve complex communications challenges. Creatively and proactively seek, suggest, plan, design, and implement new approaches to produce a wide-range of executive and mission-related products.
  • Coordinate and integrate content with client's office, subject matter experts, and external stakeholders, providing data and analysis that measures progress toward accomplishing communications goals
  • Quickly gain fluency in the agency’s vision and mission, as well as the needs of key stakeholders within the directorate
  • Participate in meetings with directorate leadership and collaborate across agency communications teams
  • Develop, maintain, and implement communications strategies supporting ESDMD and SAO initiatives. Ensure communication strategies, planning and integration activities are aligned with Agency direction and guidance, enterprise mission assignments, and Agency business strategy.
  • Develop, produce, and oversee the development of a range of products, including briefings and presentations, talking points, abstracts, and technical papers
  • Align communications products and strategies to focus on target audiences (the NASA workforce, the White House and Congress, academia, international and industry partners, and the public)
  • Support key development milestones and events with written and graphic content and associated publishable content (ex: Architecture Concept Reviews and Workshops)
  • Provide SAO strategy development and implementation support to events, conferences, workshops
  • Translate complex capabilities to layman's terms for public consumption
  • Identify and create new opportunities to invigorate and connect with internal and external stakeholders
