About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Communication Strategist to support the Research Directorate (RD) at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. In this role, you will plan, develop, and execute integrated communication strategies that support NASA’s mission, priorities, and organizational messaging. The Research Directorate delivers world‑class research and technology development capabilities for NASA and the nation. RD comprises 23 sub-organizations spanning Aerosciences, Advanced Materials and Structures, and Intelligent Flight Systems, and collaborates extensively with technical organizations across Langley. The directorate provides high‑quality research, analysis, and stewardship of key ground‑test capabilities essential to current and future Agency needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, writing, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills with mastery of AP style (writing samples required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience managing a high volume of communication products with competing priorities

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of NASA’s mission, vision, and the priorities of RD leadership and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to strategic communications planning and support directorate‑level planning activities.
  • Create mission overview materials, including resources and briefing packages for directorate events.
  • Provide event planning and execution support for RD engagements, including logistics, executive coordination, run‑of‑show development, presentations, remarks, talking points, and related communications.
  • Develop key messages and talking points in partnership with RD leadership for internal and external speaking engagements.
  • Draft and coordinate reviews of communication products, such as press releases, web articles, executive remarks, program updates, and media statements.
  • Support integration of program content into NASA digital platforms and social‑media channels.
  • Maintain and update directorate web content.
  • Participate in meetings with directorate and program leadership and coordinate with agency communications teams.
  • Plan and execute employee engagement initiatives that strengthen workplace culture and promote knowledge sharing.
  • Draft and distribute internal communications to enhance awareness, engagement, and alignment across RD.
  • Support integrated communication efforts across program teams, ensuring alignment with NASA brand standards, communications guidance, and agency policies.
