About The Position

The Communications Specialist will participate in the planning, development, and implementation of communications strategies and activities to support JHS communication and marketing efforts. Communications or public relations specialists may handle public relations, information output, press releases and media requests, social media and/or advertising for the organization. This is a project-oriented position with some oversight and works in a confidential capacity in preparing communications related to bargaining with all five (5) Unions and in doing so reports to department management. Position requires exercise of independent judgment. Responsible for maintaining information not available to the general public as confidential.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in marketing or advertising; healthcare or agency background preferred but not required.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to confidently engage with leadership, present strategic ideas, and work collaboratively in group settings.
  • Creative, open-minded, and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree OR 5 to 7 years of equivalent experience in related field is required.
  • Active license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of communication strategies to support service line growth and organizational goals.
  • Initiate and manage creative briefs, ensuring alignment with media plans and project timelines.
  • Manage content for a variety of platforms, including print, digital, social and broadcast.
  • Partner with internal clients and service line leaders to identify strategic communication opportunities and implement effective solutions.
  • Participate in team planning sessions; contribute innovative ideas and take ownership of projects as needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, media outlets, agencies, and consultants to support communication efforts.
  • Manage and sometimes assist with the production of marketing materials, patient narratives, service line overviews, and campaign content to drive engagement and patient volume growth on multiple media platforms including social as well.
  • Monitor and report on ROI, KPIs, and other performance metrics to evaluate and improve communication effectiveness.
  • Stay informed on industry trends including CRM systems, remarketing strategies, and audience behavior.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working a hybrid schedule that require meetings based on physician and leadership availability.
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
