About The Position

Western Massachusetts Hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a qualified candidate for the Communications department. Duties include using the telecommunications system to contact and dispatch emergency incidences in accordance with rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC); functioning as receptionist; responding to all emergency incidents; and performing miscellaneous office duties (i.e., typing, filing, and record keeping). Please Note: The position is 1st shift, 8\:00 am - 4\:00pm, every other weekend with days off as assigned.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.

• After appointment, appointees must obtain a valid Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's permit issued by the Federal Communications Commission.

Nice To Haves

• Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluent.
• Prior experience in code calling, dispatch, or communications.
• Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite applications to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Operates a Cisco console for telecommunications system.
• Operates Emergency paging and/or beeper system.
• Contacts & dispatches emergency personnel to incidences as needed according to emergency procedure protocol in order to provide prompt & appropriate response.
• Transmit messages from a radio communications base station in accordance with the rules & regulations of the Federal Communications Commission
• Monitors radio frequencies to receive, evaluate & forward information.
• Operates radio transmitting & receiving equipment comprising a system of fixed stations and mobile units.
• Greets and directs visitors to individuals and/or program, answers questions, and provides information and/or literature pertaining to agency rules, regulations and/or operation.
