Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) is the oldest, and one of two public, state supported, independent colleges of art and design in the country. We are committed to serving the public, and the broad demographic of students from across the Commonwealth, the region, the nation, and beyond. MassArt seeks to be a leader in increasing diversity within its curriculum and supports programs, faculty, staff, and student populations in reaching this goal. As we aim to promote an inclusive environment, we seek candidates who can actively participate in our shared goals. We encourage applicants to identify their strengths in the area of diversity and inclusiveness. In this urgent time MassArt prioritizes the teaching of sustainability in art and design and defines it as addressing and solving the problems at the intersection of social justice, health and wellbeing, and the environment. We are a highly collaborative and forward-thinking department actively committed to the decolonization of design. Over the past several years, we have been interrogating every aspect of our curricula, critique and assessment practices to hold each other accountable in creating an anti-racist environment. To create an equitable student experience and support new faculty, we enable opportunities for team teaching, combined lectures, and developing shared curricula, critique and assessment practices. We seek a candidate who is committed to making education accessible to all students, who will join us in mentorship, developing new programs, and expanding the boundaries of our discipline. We have a culture of mutual support. Candidates can expect that support to last throughout their careers, from the first semester through tenure and beyond.
