About The Position

The Communication Coordinator plays a crucial role within the Resource Development Department of the International Rescue Committee (IRC). This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy aimed at enhancing the visibility of the IRC, supporting fundraising efforts, and engaging stakeholders across various locations. The role involves crafting impactful messaging, managing digital platforms, and promoting the IRC's mission through effective storytelling and media relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, or related field required.
  • Minimum three (3) years' related experience required.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong follow through.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms in a professional context.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Proficiency in graphic design required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse, cross-cultural environment.
  • Strong interest in international and refugee issues or willingness to learn.
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.

  • Experience in non-profit communications or fundraising.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a communications strategy aligned with Resource Development goals.
  • Create materials for donor appeals, campaigns, and stewardship efforts.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms that aligns with the IRC's brand and mission.
  • Collaborate with program teams to collect and curate impactful stories.
  • Produce high-quality content including newsletters, blog posts, and social media content.
  • Design and distribute marketing materials such as annual reports and event invitations.
  • Oversee IRC's social media accounts and develop engaging content.
  • Maintain and update website content to reflect current programs and events.
  • Track and analyze communications metrics to assess campaign success.
  • Support the Resource Development team in promoting fundraising events.
  • Design promotional materials for events and campaigns.
  • Assist with event logistics and post-event communications.
  • Handle media inquiries and build relationships with journalists.
  • Draft and distribute press releases to highlight key programs and events.
  • Maintain a communications calendar for timely execution of campaigns.
  • Regularly update the Development Director on communications outcomes.
  • Maintain a database of media contacts and community partners.
  • Provide communications support to other departments as needed.
