About The Position

The Communication & Data Handling System Lead will support the space program located in Houston, TX. RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as the C&DH Section Lead supporting the Surface Exploration Avionics Lab (SEAL), focusing on the planning, requirements analysis, design, acquisition, setup, configuration testing, operation, deployment, performance assurance and maintenance of C&DH ground test and emulation systems, which will be used to verify and validate the functionality and interoperability of the Lunar Surface C&DH systems. Generates and/or applies theories, principles, practical concepts, processes, and systems related to the science of electrical/electronics engineering and the traditional engineering science disciplines (e.g., mechanical and electrical); physical science disciplines (e.g., chemistry and physics); and advanced mathematics, computer science, and economics. Researches, develops, tests, evaluates, operates, maintains, decommissions, and/or directs the fabrication, manufacture, installation and/or certification of electrical/electronic devices used in diverse technologies such as aviation, computing, transportation, commerce, and manufacturing; industrial, academic, entertainment, communications, business, residential, and healthcare environments; and a broad range of products such as computer systems, navigational systems, programmable logic controls, sensors, magnetic imaging systems, and defense systems. Analyzes and studies performance requirements against an array of diverse considerations, such as safety and human factors engineering; technical risks; functionality; reliability; failure analysis; quality assurance; maintainability; affordability of each system and device; and impact on the environment. Performs multiple functions which may include, planning, design, test and evaluation, cost analyses, program and project management, quality management for projects. Specific duties may include: Monitors contracted work either externally or on-site in the facility of the contractor. Works alongside other engineers to perform various duties. Conducts specialized studies, which may include overall and individual major computer systems, communication systems, navigation systems, display systems, radar systems, robots or components to ensure their safety, suitability, and effectiveness in operation. Conceives, specifies determination, analyzes, plans, developments, installs, tests, modifies, and uses avionic systems for both flight and ground applications. This work is concerned with the hardware and software elements required for avionic systems, including system components, component/system interfaces, operating systems, and applications software. The work also requires monitoring, providing technical direction, and evaluation of contractors engaged in this work. This specialty also includes positions that provide project management of avionic systems, includes leading a team to define, develop, test and deliver an avionic system; interface with the customer to define and negotiate technical and programmatic requirements; and planning/managing project activities to deliver products that meet technical specifications within budget and schedule. Tasks Include Leading and Coordinating C&DH. Requirements development, requirements integration, DDT&E activities and trade space evaluations. Activities within and across all Surface Exploration Architecture Emulations. Verification development and requirements closure with Requirements, Interfaces & Verification (RIV) Team. Inputs to and support of SEAL Integrated Analysis Cycles via: Requirements Gap Assessment, Technical Baseline Revisions (including TBX Closure), GRAs Updates and SRR/SDR Action Item Closure. Inputs to closure efforts for identified SEAL Risks. Provide support to cross-discipline risks requiring input to mitigating steps or C&DH supporting analyses. Support for SEAL Synch Reviews and Project Milestones. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of electrical engineering.
  • Must have 5+ years of recent and related work experience.
  • Experience with design, development, integration, and testing of complex avionics systems.
  • Planning - organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership roles with formal and informal authority, in large engineering teams.
  • Written and oral Communication - clear, concise, organized, and convincing communication for the intended audience.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
